Official opening Oct 14th, 4:30pm
Little Desert Mob Stories has been organised by a group of high school students completing their Certificate II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Art Industry Work through the VET in Schools program with Batchelor Institute.
This group of young curators came up with the idea to send small canvases to First Nation students across the Central Desert region and invite them to share important stories or things that have meaning to them.
The project gives young artists the opportunity to showcase their artwork in a professional gallery space, many of them for the first time. All paintings are available to purchase for $25, to encourage young artists to grow into the next generation of Desert Mob storytellers.
“l want the whole audience to think and see the meaning of the story in the background. To unlock new skills to learn more about painting. That is why I enrolled to be here in this course, to understand more and gain my confidence.”
