More than 15,000 young people took part in free school holiday activities across Alice Springs, with families right across town embracing a packed program of fun, active and inclusive events.
The most recent school holiday program recorded 15,399 total participants – almost double last year’s numbers – following a coordinated approach between Alice Springs Town Council, the Northern Territory Government and the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
A standout highlight for many families was the return of free ice skating, which alone attracted 8,394 participants, creating a safe, welcoming space for children and young people to connect and stay active during the holidays.
The strong turnout extended beyond the ice rink, with a record 30,224 visits to the Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre over the school holiday period.

The focus was on accessibility, wellbeing and positive social connection, with programs spread across town to make it easier for families to take part.
Mayor Asta Hill said the strong participation showed what’s possible when governments work together with a shared focus on young people.
“The school holidays can be a challenging time for families,” Mayor Hill said.
“By offering free and welcoming activities right across town, we’re helping kids keep cool, stay active, build friendships and feel connected to their community."
