Something big is coming to Alice Springs this July.
A brand-new music and skate festival, Newlandia, is set to take over the Newland Skate & Play Precinct and Jim McConville Oval on Friday 10 July, delivering a free, all-ages celebration of young people, culture and community connection.
Delivered in partnership between Alice Springs Town Council and Tangentyere Council, with funding support from the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), Newlandia will mark the conclusion of NAIDOC Week 2026 with a full day of live entertainment, action sports, creative activations and community energy.
And yes, there’s a major national headline act still to be announced.
The festival will feature skate demonstrations and competitions, live music, food vendors and a strong showcase of local talent, creating what promises to be one of the most exciting youth-focused events Alice Springs has seen in recent years.
Alice Springs Town Council Interim CEO Nicole Battle said Newlandia is all about creating something memorable for the community.
"Newlandia is about celebrating young people, celebrating culture and creating something genuinely exciting for our community," Ms Battle said.
"The Newland Skate & Play Precinct was built to be more than just a piece of infrastructure — it was always intended to be a place where young people could connect, express themselves and feel a sense of belonging.
"Newlandia brings that vision to life in a big way and we’re proud to be delivering it in partnership with Tangentyere Council as part of NAIDOC Week."
This event is a strong example of what can happen when organisations come together with a shared goal.
The partnership between Alice Springs Town Council, Tangentyere Council and NIAA reflects a collective commitment to creating positive opportunities for young people, celebrating culture, and delivering events that bring the community together in meaningful ways.
Newlandia will also be one of the biggest activations yet for the Newland Skate & Play Precinct, one of Alice Springs’ most significant recent investments in youth recreation infrastructure.
Designed with input from the community and local skate users, the precinct has quickly become a popular destination for young people and families — and for one day in July, it will transform into a festival-style celebration unlike anything else currently on offer in Alice Springs.
The event will be free, family-friendly and open to all ages, with organisers working closely with partners and stakeholders to ensure a safe and inclusive experience for everyone.
More details — including the full program and artist announcements — are coming soon.
