Alice Springs Town Council is teaming up with your favourite food vendors to make our popular Night Markets even greener. From this month, marketgoers will start seeing their delicious dishes served on reusable plates instead of single-use disposable containers.
The new initiative is part of Council’s commitment to reducing waste and keeping plastic out of landfill — all while making mealtimes more sustainable and enjoyable.
Here’s how it works:
1️⃣ Enjoy your meal from your favourite stall.
2️⃣ Scrape any leftovers into the bins provided at a Plate Drop-Off Station – located at both the Parsons Street and Gregory Terrace ends of Todd Mall.
3️⃣ Return your plate to the Drop-Off Zone. Council’s team will collect, wash, and reuse them!
By introducing this simple ‘eat, return, and reuse’ system, Council and local food vendors are helping to make community events cleaner, greener, and more circular.
The reusable plate system will make its debut at the Diwali Night Market, encouraging residents and visitors to join the movement for a cleaner, more sustainable Alice Springs.
