Alice Springs Town Council has announced that Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilsmore will step down from his role in the coming months to take up an opportunity closer to home.
Mr Wilsmore joined Alice Springs Town Council in 2023 and has served as CEO during a significant period for the organisation. During his time, he has supported the delivery of key community services and major projects while guiding Council through both challenges and opportunities facing Alice Springs.
His time as CEO has included overseeing several important projects for the town, including the construction and opening of both the Adventure Park at the Aquatic and Leisure Centre and the Newland Skate and Play Precinct, along with the beginning of the Regenerating the Alice Town Centre project and the New Library build.
Mr Wilsmore said his decision to leave Alice Springs had not been an easy one.
“This decision is bittersweet,” Mr Wilsmore said.
“Alice Springs is a remarkable community, and it has been a privilege to work alongside the dedicated staff at Council and the Elected Members who care deeply about this town.”
“While the opportunity to be closer to home is important for my family, I will always have a strong connection to Alice Springs. The people here care deeply about their community, and that passion is something I will carry with me.”
Mayor Asta Hill thanked Mr Wilsmore for his leadership and contribution to the town.
“On behalf of the Elected Members and the entire community, I would like to say a sincere thank you to Andrew for his dedication during his time as CEO,” Mayor Asta Hill said.
“Andrew has been a wonderful leader for our community and the work that he’s helped Council achieve will leave a lasting impact for generations to come. We are sad to see him go but wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
Mr Wilsmore will continue in the role of CEO until June.
“I am proud of the work we have done across the past three years as a team and I believe there’s a really bright future for Alice Springs,” he said.
“I’ve been continually impressed by the commitment of Council teams who work hard every day to improve our town. It has been an honour to work with them.”
Council will begin recruitment for the Chief Executive Officer role in accordance with the Local Government Act, with further information about transition arrangements to be shared in due course. Alice Springs Town Council thanks Mr Wilsmore for his service and wishes him and his family all the very best for the future.
