Background
Madigan Park, located at 16 Madigan Street, Braitling, is a 2,740m² parcel of public open space that has remained undeveloped since it was established in 1992.
In 2019, Alice Springs Town Council consulted with nearby residents about the future of the park, including the option of selling a portion of the land to fund improvements to the remaining public open space.
Following community consultation, Council resolved in December 2022 to subdivide the site into:
- Two residential lots
- One larger public open space lot
Funds generated from the sale of the residential lots will be used to develop the retained park.
On 17 April 2025, the Development Consent Authority (DCA) approved the subdivision. Sale proceeds of the two lots will allow Council to progress with the development,
Previous Community Feedback
During community consultation in 2019, nearby residents shared a range of views about the future of Madigan Park.
Feedback included support for selling part of the park to fund improvements to the remaining public open space, while others preferred to retain the entire site and still see the park upgraded.
Residents who supported the subdivision suggested the northern section of the park, between Madigan Street and Stuart Highway, be developed for residential lots while retaining an accessible public park. This feedback helped inform the subdivision design that was ultimately approved.

Curious what the retained park could look like?
