About the Art
The Traeger Park Mural was created with the support of Alice Springs Town Council with the input of local Indigenous traditional owners from Hidden Valley and children from the Gap Youth Centre. It is a representation of 8 different sports that are played in the Traeger Park sports precinct interwoven with specific symbols representing local bush tucker, cultural tools tied together with brightly coloured dot work.
The Mural was delivered over 10 weeks with the support of the Gap Youth Centre to engage local kids in the installation process.
About the Art
This mural is a colourful representation of the vitality that sport and local culture bring to the Alice Springs community. Showcasing honey ants, bush bananas, bush passion fruits, people gathering, spear hunting, boomerang hunting, wildflowers, AFL players, Cricket players, Swimmers, Basketball players, soft ball players, Tennis players, Hockey players with a blend of stylized pattern work. The colours were specially chosen to represent local Indigenous artwork styles throughout Central Australia. Each panel has received the input and support of Traditional Owners and Local Artists creating a piece that speaks to people of the Alice Springs community and also those visiting from afar.
