About the Art:
This sculpture shows the flood marks of the 1988 and the1983 Alice Springs floods, as well as what a Q100 (one in a hundred years) flood could look like.
Arranged on the pole at different heights according to flood levels are are a burrowing frog, shield shrimp, and spangled grunter. These are all creatures unique to Central Australia that rely on flooding of the region to multiply, and are not normally thought of to be in a desert landscape. At the base of the marker is information on the impact of flooding on each of these creatures.
