Ghost Gum Shadow Mosaic (2016)

The tree is a symbol of life and regeneration. This sculpture is a tree shadow, and represents the dead tree spreading out its branches to touch many others and nurture its surroundings. The sculpture honours the memory of a loved one which remains. The living tree grows from the root system of its elder.

The shadow cast by the living tree is another dimension of this art piece. In a literal sense, it is the shadow of sadness which hangs over us when we lose a loved one.

The living tree is positioned so that its shadow crosses over the mosaic tree.
