About the Art
Here the artists have used round edge brush work and aerosol dot work as a playful way of capturing the rich spectrum of light that the sun’s orientation depicts across the landscape. This artwork pays homage to the legacy of the ancient Coolabah trees, whose protective hollows are still home to the cacophony of native birds we see today.
The design concept was developed with guidance from Dr. Fiona Walsh, an Ethno-ecologist with broad experience in desert Australia.
Words from the Artist
Artist Tamara Cornthwaite describes the work with this poem:
A Pointillist acknowledgment,
Reflects the sky’s awakening.
The Coolabah’s dark bodies sway
Heavy and saturated.
The Old Man Salt Bush sits,
Amidst the lingering mist.
The antiquity of colour,
To a time of standing water.
