Councillor Damien Ryan brings decades of leadership, community service, and local government experience to the Alice Springs Town Council. Well known to the community, he served as Mayor of Alice Springs from 2008 to 2021. He also represented the Territory on a broader stage, serving as President of the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (2012–2020) and Chair of the Central Australian Health Service (2013–2017). He has also contributed to many other boards and committees, including the Australian Local Government Association, NT Grants Commission, and NT Heritage Council.
Outside of local government, Councillor Ryan has worked in retail photography and continues to apply his skills and experience in his current role with MacDonnell Regional Council. He has a long history with community events, including more than four decades of involvement in coordinating and assisting the Tatts Finke Desert Race (1976–2021).
In his spare time, Councillor Ryan enjoys photography, walking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
