Childcare in Australia is in short supply, and Alice Springs is no exception, although the situation here is easier than many of the major cities. Childcare in Alice Springs is provided by long day care centres, most of which are run on a non-profit basis by management commitees of parents in conjunction with various levels of government.
medical
Alice Springs has a fully equipped teaching hospital and a range of GPs, dentists and other specialised health services.
Bulk billing (where Australian residents with a Medicare card can receive free treatment from a GP) is not generally available in Alice Springs.
The Hospital runs an after hours General Practicioners clinic which is quite expensive, but sometimes the only option if a GP is needed at short notice.
