Swimming season will kick off with a fun-filled opening day, including free entry and activities for everyone, on Sunday 9 September from 10am to 7pm at the Alice Springs Swimming Centre on Speed Street.
As part of Water Safety Month, the opening day theme will be ‘Water Safety Fun Day’ with lots of activities for people both in and out of the water.
“It’s really important for the community to take an interest in and learn about water safety, especially families and children,” said Swimming Centre Manager Ms Sally Luchich.
On Sunday people can enjoy a Super Life Saver Challenge, a Water Safety Circuit, swimming races, Survivor Challenge and a demonstration of the Water Safety Awareness Program. Throughout the day there will also be live radio broadcasts from Sun FM, prizes and give-aways as well as food and refreshments.
“Young children will also be pleased to know that they can come along at 12 midday and meet Water Safety Mascot Boof the Barra and his friend Yamba the Honey Ant. Everyone is welcome, and parents are please reminded that all children must have adequate supervision whilst they are at the pool,” said Ms Luchich.
The Alice Springs Swimming Centre has a full Olympic size pool, a learn to swim pool and a toddlers wading pool all of which will be open and fully appreciated by all who attend opening day.
“People should also remember there are free gas barbecues at the pool, and plenty of shade, making the Swimming Centre the perfect setting to enjoy the outdoors, keep active and perhaps even have a family picnic or barbecue,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.
“Our Swimming Centre is a great community facility, and each year opening day is enjoyed by all who attend. It really is a fun day for families and people in the community to get out, socialise and enjoy the range of fun and educational activities planned for the day,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.
