Exeloo to get the first flush

Installation of the new self-cleaning Exeloo toilet, located in the Hartley Street carpark alongside Australia Post, is nearly complete. Mayor Fran Kilgariff will officially open the new public toilet on Hartley Street with the first “official flush” today at 2pm.

After the opening, the self-cleaning toilet will be open for public use and will provide the community with access to free and hygienic public toilets.

“I don’t think there is a member of Council who has not at one stage or another been approached about the lack of free public toilets in the CBD. This is why the current Council made the commitment in the 06/07 budget to purchase and install the Exeloo,” said Mayor Kilgariff.

“Council has chosen to celebrate the official opening of the Exeloo because it is a first for Alice Springs. I will be pleased to announce to the community that the project, after years of consideration and planning, is now complete,” said Mayor Kilgariff.

The new toilet can be pre-programmed, to allow for full-cleaning cycles throughout the day. As it is a new public toilet, Council will be monitor “peak” times, and will change the full-cleaning schedule accordingly.

“Council envisages huge cost savings in cleaning expenses, and the solid design and lack of fixtures will also help reduce the incidence of vandalism and need for any ongoing repairs,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.

The Exeloo self-cleaning toilet utilises all modern-day features, including:

• Automatic doors

• Electronic basin unit

• No touch flushing

• Electronic toilet tissue dispenser

• Short sanitisation cycle after every use

“Once installed the new Exeloo self-cleaning toilet will help address a community need for access to free-to-use and hygienic public toilets in Alice Springs,” said Mayor Kilgariff.
