Alice Springs Town Council’s Works Department today began sweeping over several major sporting ovals in Alice Springs as part of its ongoing commitment to address community safety issues.
Due to the appearance of increased rubbish, debris and glass on community sporting ovals, Council has introduced the use of its Rake-o-Vac on several sporting ovals as part of its weekly schedule.
“The Rake-o-Vac is not a new piece of equipment, but we recently developed a new work schedule so that we can utilise it to help clean up our ovals, and subsequently minimise risks to people who are using our ovals for recreation,” said Alice Springs Town Council Acting Works Manager Craig Pankhurst.
The Rake-o-Vac was decided as the best piece of equipment for the job as it works extremely quickly and efficiently as it rakes up and vacuums debris into a hopper.
“I am extremely proud of the initiative shown by Council staff, who have noticed rubbish problems on our major sporting facilities and have reworked their already busy schedules to include the introduction of sweeping major sporting ovals in Alice Springs,” said Alice Springs Town Council Chief Executive Officer Rex Mooney.
Alice Springs Town Council will continue to sweep sporting ovals as part of its ongoing outdoor schedule, and it is expected that the community will be able to see an improvement in both cleanliness and safety on major sporting ovals.
“As a Council, we are so pleased to see that we are proactively addressing safety on our community sporting ovals. I am positive the Works Department revised workplan will help improve the current situation, and hope the community will start seeing a decrease in the amount of debris and glass on our ovals,” said Mayor Kilgarifff.
