Council Rangers out in full force

With a recent increase in Ranger numbers, Alice Springs Town Council’s Ranger Unit will be placing a more concentrated effort into enforcing Council by-laws. The Council Ranger Unit will boast five full time rangers, and one trainee ranger in addition to management and administrative support.

As part of their improved enforcement numbers, the Council Rangers will be focussing particularly on issues in the CBD including illegal parking (particularly in disabled parking bays), littering, animal control and illegal temporary promotional boards on footpaths to name a few.

“We will be taking enforcement of by-laws very seriously. I am aware that it will be a harsh reality for a lot of people who have gotten away with doing the wrong thing up until now, but everyone needs to realise that Council by-laws are in place to ensure the community is safe, clean and accessible to everyone,” said Alice Springs Town Council’s Ranger Unit Manager, Mr Kevin Everett.

“We are not trying to make people’s lives more difficult. We are here to actually provide a service to the community, and it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to do the right thing and obey the by-laws,” said Mr Everett.

Alice Springs Town Council has had a long term view of increasing its Ranger numbers for some time now, and is extremely pleased to now provide an improved service to Council and the community.

“Our Ranger Unit always works extremely hard, but when faced with limited man-power it has made it hard for us to proactively and consistently address particular community issues,” said Alice Springs Town Council Chief Executive Officer, Rex Mooney.

“Now that we have a full complement of staff, the Ranger Unit will be able to more effectively and strategically enforce Council by-laws. This is something that has proven difficult in the past, in terms of support and man-power, when working with minimal staff,” said Mr Mooney.
