Alice Springs Town Council is giving the entire community the opportunity to gain an insight into Local Government by making sound recordings of each Council and Committee meeting available for download through Council’s website.
The recordings are being made available for download through the use of state-of-the-art recording technology in the new Civic Centre Chamber.
“Council is aware that not everyone has the time to take an interest in Local Government, but by allowing people access to the recordings they can simply download the recordings and listen to the meetings in their own time,” said Mayor Kilgariff.
“In the privacy of their own homes members of the public will now be able to hear each elected member discuss the issues that are being brought to the table every month, and perhaps better understand the processes of Local Government in their own community,” said Mayor Kilgariff.
The recordings will be available for download on the Wednesday following a meeting, and will remain on Council’s website for a period of one to two months after each meeting.
“We are very excited as a Council to be leading the way in information technology and allowing ourselves to become even more transparent in our dealings with the public,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.
“The recordings will also be of great benefit to local media, who can listen to the audio tapes and provide accurate quotes and descriptions of the meetings, and simply keep up-to-date on current Council activities, recommendations and decisions,” said Mayor Kilgariff.
To access the recordings, visit www.alicesprings.nt.gov.au, click on the link to the ‘your council’ page, and then click the link to the ‘council meetings’ page.
