Correctional Centre crews to paint community bus shelters

Over the coming weeks inmates from the Alice Springs Correctional Centre will be painting bus shelters in Alice Springs

The aim of the project is to assist the Alice Springs Town Council and the wider community in the ongoing maintenance of the shelters, as well as help tackle graffiti.

The Alice Springs Town Council is providing all painting materials and equipment, whilst the Correctional Centre will be supplying teams of prison inmates to take on the task.

The work, which begins this week, forms part of a number of community tasks undertaken by the Correctional Centre within Alice Springs.

“I feel it is a very positive for the Correctional Centre to provide opportunities for prison inmates to give back to the community, through doing valuable community service such as this project,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.

The community is reminded to be wary of wet paint over the coming weeks. Council is providing the Correctional Centre crews with hazard tape, and ‘wet paint’ warnings will be chalked onto the footpath.

“If people can remember to watch out for these warnings, and perhaps check to see that bus shelters are dry over the coming weeks before sitting down,” said Mayor Kilgariff.

“On behalf of the Alice Springs Town Council I would also like to thank the Alice Springs Correctional Centre for taking part in this valuable community service,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.
