“An invitation for change” - A community awareness campaign

On Sunday 29 July a community awareness campaign “An invitation for change” was launched on local television. The campaign will run for several months and invites everyone to play a part in creating positive changes for Alice Springs.

The development of the campaign follows a firm commitment made by the Alice Springs Town Council at a Community Leaders Forum held in May this year, and was subsequently backed by the support of the NT Government and Imparja Television.

“The campaign is being released in conjunction with the NT Government’s rollout of the Dry Town Legislation, however our campaign focuses more on the need for everyone to respect our town and take responsibility for community safety Alice Springs,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.

“The campaign includes a series of three 30 second commercials, aimed at engaging with a large cross-section of the Alice Springs community and visitors to our town,” said Mayor Fran Kilgariff.

“We will also be running a radio campaign in remote communities to further communicate the key messages from the television campaign,” said Mayor Kilgariff.

Key spokespeople in the advertisements include Mayor Fran Kilgariff, Aboriginal Community Police Officer Phillip Alice and popular local band “The Moxie”.

“I would like to thank Phillip Alice and the Moxie for participating and contributing to the development of this positive community awareness campaign. It is only through their contributions that we have been able to create a successful campaign that will essentially reach and speak to the entire community,” said Mayor Kilgariff.

“I would also like to thank the NT Government for supporting Alice Springs Town Council in the production and implementation of this campaign, and Imparja Television for their in-kind support in excess of $60,000. Without the combined efforts of all involved we would not have been able to produce such a positive community awareness campaign,” said Mayor Kilgariff.
