Alice Springs Town Council taking the lead in workplace safety

Alice Springs Town Council is taking the lead in workplace safety, with over 120 of its employees participating in Safe Work Australia Week activities to focus on workplace safety issues.

Around 330 Australians lose their lives each year as a result of a work-related injury and there is no better time to strengthen workplace safety messages than during Safe Work Week Australia Week.

As one of the largest employers in Alice Springs, Council has made it a priority to raise awareness of safety in the workplace. Alice Springs Town Council CEO Rex Mooney said Council is committed to its employees, and employee safety in the workplace is a number one priority.

“Incorporating safety into our everyday work practices and making it a daily consideration not only improves occupational health and safety performance, but it has a very significant effect on our productivity,” said Mr Mooney.

“To celebrate Safe Work Australia Week our employees have organised safety events and activities, such as working safely at heights, safe use of a chainsaw, working with chemicals and a talk by NT Worksafe Officers to run throughout the week to encourage everyone to get involved in making our workplace safe,” said Mr Mooney

Alice Springs Town Council encourages all employers in Alice Springs to demonstrate their commitment to workplace safety by getting involved in Safe Work Australia Week. Participation on any level will help to reduce the incidence of death, injury and disease in workplaces across Australia.
