Council is seeking a suitably skilled person to provide advice and assist in the planning of Council’s capital works and infrastructure projects, to ensure that they fully meet Council’s engineering and statutory requirements

Salary: Level 5 (Municipal Officer) $56,670- $59,198 pa and other allowances in accordance with Council’s Workplace Partnership Agreement

POSITION DESCRIPTION: PROJECT COORDINATOR

Primary Objective

To provide advice and assist in the planning and construction of Council’s capital works and infrastructure projects, to ensure that they fully meet Council’s engineering and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct capital works and infrastructure projects work including investigation surveys, preparation of design plans and specifications, plus contract administration and the supervision of works.

2. Provide construction/technical advice to other officers within the department and prepare reports for Council regarding Council projects in line with progress compliances, as required.

3. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to determine community opinions;
a. Internal stakeholders – Council Senior Officers, staff and Elected members
b. External stakeholders – members of the public, officers of Government Departments, contractors, developers and consultants

4. Compile tenders, as required, for Council works projects.

5. Develop policies, procedures and forms associated with road-works, signs, verge development and laneway closures.

6. Handle enquires from residents regarding Council capital works and infrastructure projects

7. Manage subdivision of Council land for development.

8. Inspect road-works to ensure compliance regarding OHS&W,

9. Monitor traffic using Council Metro Count.

10. Perform other tasks in line with Primary Objective from time to time as directed.

To make day to day decisions within Infrastructure and Development guidelines and policy.

Qualifications

1. Professional qualifications in engineering/construction or other tertiary qualifications acceptable to the CEO.
2. Current drivers licence to be able to drive a motor vehicle in the Northern Territory.

Selection Criteria

Essential

1. Ability to perform investigation survey, design, preparation of plans and specifications, contract administration and supervision of works.
2. Ability to effectively use MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD and the Internet.
3. High standard of literacy and demonstrated ability to prepare professional written documents, including tenders and reports.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
5. A commitment to achieving results using teamwork.
6. Ability to manage personal timeframes and competing priorities, to achieve organisational outcomes in a timely and orderly manner.
7. Knowledge of the OH&S requirements of the position.
8. Professional qualifications in engineering/construction or other tertiary qualifications acceptable to the CEO.
9. Current drivers licence to be able to drive a motor vehicle in the NT.

Desirable

1. Experience in a works service environment in local government.
2. Experience working in a cross cultural environment, especially with indigenous communities and individuals.
