Council is seeking an enthusiastic indigenous person to take on a horticultural traineeship.
Must have a genuine interest in horticulture and a desire to learn. May lead to permanent
position.
Salary:Level 3 (Municipal Employee), $36,254 p/a and other allowances in accordance with Council’s Workplace Partnership Agreement.

Undertake formal and on-the-job training in relevant horticultural activities, in order to successfully complete Certificate III in Horticulture
Take part in a broad range of horticultural activities, especially relating to the maintenance of Council equipment and facilities in parks, ovals, gardens and reserves.
• Maintain turf including grass cutting, fertilising, top dressing and turfing
• Maintain trees and shrubs through effective non-elevated pruning and caring methods
• Maintain and install irrigation systems
• Identify and remove weeds, pests and diseases and eradicate them through the effective use of pesticides and herbicides
• General cleaning and removal of rubbish
• Operate and maintain equipment including mower, blower, whipper-snipper, edger and roller
• Keep accurate daily work records and report any issues including necessary repairs to the team leader/ supervisor
• Work unsupervised following instructions
• Work safely as part of a team following Council policies and procedures
• Behave according to the ASTC Code of Conduct including treating the general public with respect
• Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor

5. Good verbal and written communication skills, with literacy and numeracy skills at a level to enable completion of a traineeship

7. Ability to be respectful to the general public and other Council employees
1. Some basic horticultural experience and/or the completion of some horticultural studies
2. Understanding of and or familiarity with Aboriginal Culture
3. Current C Class Licence to be able to drive in the Northern Territory
