Programs for Children & Youth
We run regular FREE programs for children aimed at developing literacy, promoting reading and use of the library resources, contributing to community devlopment and the sharing of culture and knowledge.

Baby Rhyme Time
Friday mornings from 10.15am-10.45am
No session Friday 30 March (Good Friday) but SPECIAL session Thursday 29 March 10.15am-10.45am
For 0-2 year olds. Songs, rhymes, stories and play are a wonderful way to develop a love of language. This interactive session is designed to support pre-literacy education in a fun and social way.
FREE. No bookings required. 0-2 year olds.
Monday afternoons from 2.00pm-2.30pm, and Tuesday mornings from 10.15am-10.45am
No session Monday 2 April (Easter Monday)
For 2-5 year olds. Learning can be as simple as one book. Preschool Storytime is a fun and interactive session using books, rhymes, songs and play to stimulate literacy development.
FREE. Bookings not required. 2-5 year olds.

No session Monday 2 April (Easter Monday)
The Alice Springs Public Library has its very own LEGO Club and you're invited to join in!
LEGO is supplied (although donations are always appreciated). All you need is a willingness to have fun and create! Create something yourself, in a team or try out our Challenge Cards. There is something for everyone at the LEGO Club.
FREE. No bookings required during School Term time. All ages.
Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during term time.
Code Club is a free after school program for boys and girls aged 9-11 years and teaches children the skills, confidence and opportunity to shape their world using coding, robotics and game-design.
FREE. Bookings essential. 8-12 year olds.
Young Writers' Club
Wednesday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during school term.
This program is designed for budding young writers and story tellers with a new theme chosen each term to explore different ways to write and tell stories.
Afternoon snacks are provided.
FREE. No bookings required. 7-12 year olds.
Term 1 2018: Creative Writing 101 + FUN

How do we tell stories? Why do we tell stories? Create and express your stories this term with the Young Writers' Club!
Come and develop your storytelling skills in a fun and social environment.
Starts: Wednesday 7 February until Wednesday 11 April 2018.
Every Wednesday during school term.
Free. No bookings required. Snacks provided. In the Library Meeting Room.
Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during term time.
Discover the library’s robotics collection and skill yourself up for the future at our new weekly STEAM Corps program for boys and girls ages 8 to 14.
Learn new skills and rise through the ranks of STEAM Corps!
FREE. Bookings essential. Places strictly limited. 8-14 year olds.

Community Events and Organisations
In addition to the programs run within the library, we also visit other organisations such as:
- Local schools - contact us if you would like to bring your class for a visit!
- Territory Parents Support Group at the Flynn Drive Community Health Centre
- Yipirinya School Storytime
We also take part in community events such as:
- Children’s Week Celebrations
- Alice Desert Festival events
- Bangtail Muster and School Fetes with Booka the dog, the Library’s mascot
In our Youth area, we have a range of PCs and Macs for use by 12-17 year olds. These provide access to filtered internet, online resources and music software.
Youth can access these computers for FREE from 3pm on school days and all day on weekends and school holidays.
Special access during school hours will only be granted if a parent or guardian is present.
