We run regular FREE programs for children aimed at developing literacy, promoting reading and use of the library resources, contributing to community devlopment and the sharing of culture and knowledge.

Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club

Join the Club from Friday 1 December for the chance to WIN some awesome prizes!

This summer every hour of reading counts. Take the challenge and win big this summer with the Summer Reading Club!

  • Sign up at the library to receive FREE Summer Reading Club Pack  including a library bag, activity booklet and MORE!
  • Read for 2 hours and come claim your lucky dip prize at the library
  • Keep reading for more chances to WIN in weekly prize draws OR the major prize draw!
  • Come to our Library Splash Olympics Party on Saturday 20 January for fun, games and the Major Prize Draw

Be rewarded for reading whatever you like, at whatever pace, whenever you like this summer. Magazines, novels, bedtime stories, audio books, whatever stories you read and listen to count with the Summer Reading Club!

The Summer Reading Club is open to all kids aged 17 and under.

Library Splash Olympics Party

After a full summer of reading, reading, reading you deserve to cool off and GAME ON! Summer Reading Club participants and their families are invited to our end-of-program Splash Olympic Party where we'll be drawing the MAJOR PRIZE!

Major Prize Winners from the 3 age categories will walk away with a limited edition BB-8 Sphero robot!

There will be heaps of lucky-door prizes as well - including the chance for your Reading Team to be crowned Summer Reading Club Champions!

Regular Programs

 

Baby Rhyme Time

Friday mornings from 10.15am-10.45am

Last 2017 session: Friday 15 December
Resumes: Friday 5 January 2018

For 0-2 year olds. Songs, rhymes, stories and play are a wonderful way to develop a love of language. This interactive session is designed to support pre-literacy education in a fun and social way.

FREE. No bookings required. 0-2 year olds.

 

Preschool Storytime

Monday afternoons from 2.00pm-2.30pm, and Tuesday mornings from 10.15am-10.45am

Last 2017 session: Monday 11 & Tuesday 12 December
Resumes:
 Tuesday 2 & Monday 8 January 2018

For 2-5 year olds. Learning can be as simple as one book. Preschool Storytime is a fun and interactive session using books, rhymes, songs and play to stimulate literacy development.

FREE. Bookings not required. 2-5 year olds.

 

LEGO Club

Monday afternoons from 4.00pm-5.30pm

Last 2017 session: Monday 11 December
Resumes: Monday 29 January 2018

The Alice Springs Public Library has its very own LEGO Club and you're invited to join in!

LEGO is supplied (although donations are always appreciated). All you need is a willingness to have fun and create! Create something yourself, in a team or try out our Challenge Cards. There is something for everyone at the LEGO Club.

FREE. No bookings required during School Term time. All ages.

Code Club

Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during term time.

Last 2017 session: Tuesday 12 December
Resumes: Tuesday  6 February 2018

Code Club is a free after school program for boys and girls aged 9-11 years and teaches children the skills, confidence and opportunity to shape their world using coding, robotics and game-design.

FREE.  Bookings essential 9-11 year olds.

 

Young Writers' Club

Wednesday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during term time.

Last 2017 session: Wednesday 13 December
Resumes: Wednesday 7 February 2018

This program is designed for budding young writiers and story tellers with a new theme is chosen each term to explore different ways to write and tell stories.
Afternoon snacks are provided. 

FREE. No bookings required. 7-12 year olds.

 

STEAM Corps

Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm-5.00pm during term time.

Last 2017 session: Thursday 14 December
Resumes: Thursday 8 February 2018

Discover the library’s robotics collection and skill yourself up for the future at our new weekly STEAM Corps program for boys and girls ages 8 to 14.
Learn new skills and rise through the ranks of STEAM Corps!

FREE. Bookings essential. Places strictly limited. 8-14 year olds.

Community Events and Organisations

In addition to the programs run within the library, we also visit other organisations such as:

  • Local schools - contact us if you would like to bring your class for a visit!
  • Territory Parents Support Group at the Flynn Drive Community Health Centre
  • Yipirinya School Storytime

We also take part in community events such as:

  • Children’s Week Celebrations
  • Alice Desert Festival events
  • Bangtail Muster and School Fetes with Booka the dog, the Library’s mascot

 

Youth Computers

In our Youth area, we have a range of PCs and Macs for use by 12-17 year olds. These provide access to filtered internet, online resources and music software.

Youth can access these computers for FREE from 3pm on school days and all day on weekends and school holidays. 

Special access during school hours will only be granted if a parent or guardian is present.
