Mobile Muster 2010

The Alice Springs Town Council would like to encourage all residents to take advantage of their Mobilemuster program before it finishes in March 2010.

The program entails bringing your old mobile phone into Council and in exchange for recycling the phone you get a voucher for a FREE native plant, which is yours to keep.

The program commenced in September last year and since then Council has collected over 150 old mobile phones.  But there are still nearly 1850 FREE native trees to be given away, so Council is encouraging locals to take advantage of the offer before the program finishes on 11th March 2010.
Acting CEO Greg Buxton said “I urge all Alice Springs residents who have an old mobile phone laying around to take advantage of the Mobilemuster program and not only recycle the phone but also plant a free native tree.  It’s a great program and we’d like to see as many phones recycled and trees planted as possible.”

Recycling your old phone is quick and easy, just come into the Alice Springs Town Council’s front counter to hand in your old phone and receive a voucher entitling the holder to one FREE native plant (one voucher per plant per handset received).

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please ensure that all personal information is deleted from the phone and the SIM card is removed.

Then take your voucher to Greening Australia’s nursery before the 30th March 2010 to exchange if for a FREE native plant.  These plants are then yours to plant as you like.

Over 90% of the materials in mobile phones can be recovered and used as raw materials for new products.  As part of the national Mobilemuster Alice Springs Town Council hopes to collect as many mobile phone handset as possible to save these recyclable materials from going to landfill.
