Trees in Alice

Trees are very important in Alice, not just for shade, but also in some instances for cultural reasons. The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority is responsible for overseeing the protection of Aboriginal sacred trees and sites across the Territory. Residents are advised to contact the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority for any questions relating to sacred trees and sites.

Separate to this is the Land for Wildlife Central Australia NT Register of Significant Trees. This register aims to create awareness around protecting trees, which are a significant part of the heritage of the Northern Territory. The register was initiated by the National Trust, who worked with Greening Australia NT to manage and develop the register.
