FREE monthly 5km footpath loop to suit anyone! Can you improve on your own time? Start/finish at the river footpath opposite Todd Tavern (near the River Activation Space). Members have the opportunity to be timed during this event, non-members will not be timed Unless otherwise advised, this is a monthly event on the first Saturday of the month. Please register for the event beforehand; any member registrations after 5 pm on the day before will not be able to be timed, unfortunately. We will accept registrations on the day, please register online Race briefing at 6:50 AM sharp. It will also include a prize draw for members. 2024 bibs will also be ready for pick-up for registered members. The course is not pet-friendly due to the grated footbridge along the course. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Wednesdays at 10am - 11am, 20th March - 12th June (no session 10th April) Embrace the captivating world of children's books as we present twelve magical story times at the bookshop! Bring your little ones (1-5 years) to enjoy enchanting tales read by the wonderful Marg Simonetto. Week one our adventure begins with the delightful 'Noni the Pony' by Alison Lester. Marg Simonetto has over 30 years as an Early Childhood teacher and has also served as a teacher-librarian. She loves introducing young children to the wonder books and watching their reactions to stories. And, for parents, she can also chat to you about the merits of various books. The Young Territory Author Awards (YTAA) are an annual writing competition where entrants write and produce their own book. The Awards aim to inspire children and young people in the NT to explore their ideas and turn them into stories. The competition is open to all Territorians 18 years and under, and is organised in association with other public libraries and schools throughout the Northern Territory. Entries close 27 August 2024 and the winners will be announced at a presentation in Darwin in November 2024.

NT Literary Awards Writing Bee

Calling all NT writers with unpublished works! Did you know the NT Literary awards are open and you can win a host of awards and prizes? NT Writers Centre are hosting four Writing Bees to help writers in Mparntwe/Alice Springs polish their submissions before the closing date on 13 May. These Writing Bees are designed to give busy writers the time, space, and snacks to get their work finished. Available FREE for NTWC members, writers will have access to the cosy Red Hot Arts meeting room, kitchenette and breakout spaces. These writing bees are self-guided sessions - a calm environment for writers to work in small groups. Lunch, tea and coffee will be provided, though of course feel free to bring your favourite snacks. Book your drop-in space for up to four days of writing: Sat 13 April 9am-7pm Sun 14 April 9am-7pm Sat 11 May 9am-7pm Sun 12 May 9am-7pm Not a member? Opportunity for First Nations Creatives Creative skills workshop around working in illustration and design industries. Open to young and emerging First Nations artists or those looking to explore digital and commercial practices. 18 - 19 APRIL 2024 ALICE SPRINGS We will hear from established First Nations artists Emrhan Tjapanangka Sultan, a Western Arrarnta, Luritja and Kokatha man, and Coree Thorpe, a Yorta Yorta, Gunditjmara, Gunai, Wurundjeri artist based in Melbourne. You will learn a range of digital skills, engage in a range of creative storytelling activities, and collaboratively design and paint a mural. We invite you to submit an expression of interest to attend, or to register interest from your school or community group. Please include your name, age, and a bit about your creative practice. Photos will be on display at the historic precinct all day and all week. • 2:00 PM: Launch Heritage Festival • 2:00 PM: Guided Tour @ Central Australian Aviation Museum Precinct 21 April • 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Unveiling of plaque by John Strehlow @ Hermannsburg Historic Precinct Marking the location of burial of TGH (Ted) Strehlow's ashes. Directions: Drive past Hermannsburg and across the Finke Causeway. Immediately turn right towards Tjuwanpa. Follow signs straight ahead for 1km. The half-hour ceremony will be held at the large Desert Oak Tree. 3:00 PM: John Strehlow and Glen Auricht will talk at the Heritage Precinct Tea Rooms. • 2:45 PM: Guided Walk @ Telegraph Station Historic Track North Road from Telegraph Station with Eugene Blom. Discover the old Bullock and camel dray track used in 1871 by the OTL construction parties, and overland travelling to Palmerston. Experience for yourself why this was known as “The Devil’s Pinch” by teamsters and motorists. Until about 1932 when the Big Dipper was built, this rough track was the only way through the MacDonnell Ranges. Discover the many original relics strewn along this long disused section of track. Overgrown and forgotten since 1965. Limited parking available at the discovery walk, which is 8km from the Telegraph Station via the North Stuart Highway. High clearance vehicle required, and ride-sharing from the Telegraph Station will ensure more people can participate. 22 April • 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Toastmasters @ Olive Pink Botanical Garden Find your voice at Toastmasters. Experience the learning process in how to become a fluent public speaker and connect to your audience. 23 April • 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Community Talk with Warwick Marsh @ Hartley Street School The Anglican Church Community Connections to history in Stuart/Alice Springs/Mparntwe. The church provided its 1st service in Alice Springs in 1901 and has connections to education institutions including St Mary's and Hartley St School. Warwick Marsh will present a talk about the many connections of the Anglican Church of the Ascension with the community over the century. • 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM: Open House @ Hansen House National Trust Heritage listed Hansen House.
