Australian Citizenship Day Ceremony
The Alice Springs Town Council takes great pleasure in extending an invitation to the people of Alice Springs to observe the Citizenship Ceremony proceedings being held on Friday, 15 September, conducted by His Worship The Mayor Mr Damien Ryan, in conjunction with Australian Citizenship Day.
Alice Springs will welcome 20 new citizens on Friday, September 15 at a Citizenship Ceremony to be held at the Civic Centre Function Room, commencing at 9:00am.
This year’s Citizenship Day ceremony will see a diverse range of people from a variety of countries such as India, Canada, Argentina, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Iran, Taiwan and Zimbabwe make their pledge to becoming an Australian citizen.
Australian Citizenship Day is celebrated each year on 17 September. It is a special day to reflect on and celebrate being an Australian citizen. September 17 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the renaming of the Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948 to the Australian Citizenship Act 1948.
Australian Citizenship Day was introduced in 2001 to provide an occasion for individuals, schools, community groups and organisations to celebrate and value Australian citizenship and the peaceful, prosperous and inclusive society we share.
