Library launches ‘italklibrary.com’

 

The Alice Springs Public Library will be launching italklibrary.com on Friday 17 June 2011 at 3:30pm.

 

Mayor Damien Ryan encourages the community to come along “This is exciting news for the Library and we want to share this great new educational resource with the community.”

 

italk Library is the world’s first open-source, online multilingual spoken library.  The resource contains a selection of e-books that have been created in local languages and can be listened to in audio format whilst being accompanied by graphics.

 

The italk Library will be available on Alice Springs Public Library computers and patrons can download the e-book of their choice.

 

“A high proportion of our patrons are Indigenous and this initiative offers a user friendly resource in local language.” said Library Services Manager Georgina Davison.

 

The community and media are invited to the free afternoon tea to launch this exciting new resource, the launch is open to adults and children with after school snacks provided.
