your council kerbside collection

Alice Springs Town Council, in conjunction with the kerbside collection contractor, provides a domestic waste collection service in the Alice Springs community.

Your responsibilities

It is your responsibility to maintain your bin in a hygienic condition. There are many things you can do to help prevent unwanted smells, and to prevent flies being attracted to and breeding in you wheelie bin. All meat, fish, dairy products, waste, vegetable and fruit scraps should be wrapped before placement in the wheelie bin to help minimise odours. Also hose your bin out thoroughly at least once a month.

On bin day you should:

  • place your wheelie-bin out the night before
  • put your wheelie-bin as close to the edge of the road as possible
  • make sure your wheelie-bin faces the road
  • ensure that your bin is clear of trees and obstructions including fire hydrants, power poles and parked vehicles
  • put your bin back on your property after it has been emptied

What type of waste can go in my wheelie-bin?

Your wheelie-bin is designed to only hold household waste. Heavy materials, such as concrete, cause damage to the wheelie-bins and the
collection vehicles.

Residents are reminded to follow these simple rules:

  • Don't put industrial waste any kind in your wheelie-bin as they designed for household waste only
  • Don't overfill your wheelie-bin so the lid not close as waste will fall onto the roadside
  • Don't put hot ashes or acids in your wheelie-bin
  • Don't leave excess rubbish in bags or boxes next to your wheelie-bin for collection as it will not be removed
  • Don't leave your wheelie-bin in the road
  • Don't put more than 70 kg in your wheelie-bin.

What can happen if I don't follow the rules?

Your wheelie-bin will not be emptied if it contains items such as:

  • building materials or concrete
  • batteries
  • engine parts
  • excess dirt
  • timber
  • tyres
  • wire
  • waste oil

You will then be responsible for emptying bins that are too full or contain unacceptable materials.

Who can I contact to get more information?

Please contact Cleanaway on 89 521336 for more information, or to find out what services are available if you need to dispose of waste that is not acceptable in your wheelie-bin.

If your wheelie bin is lost or damaged, please notify Alice Springs Town Council during office hours on 89 500500 to arrange for a replacement wheelie-bin to be delivered to your property. If you are a new resident please ask for a bin at the Alice Spring Town Council.
