library Information for country borrowers

The Alice Springs Public Library provides a service to residents of out-lying areas who are not able to make regular visits to Alice Springs. To be eligible for this service you must live more than 100km from Alice Springs; live south of Barrow Creek; and/or have your mail delivered via Alice Springs Post Office. This service is not available to residents of an area serviced by another local government library.

How Does It Work?

At the time of joining, patrons are asked to fill in reading preference sheets. This information is used by the Country Borrower Officer to make selections on your behalf. The selections are packed into a box and mailed out. When you have finished with the material, you return the box to the Library using a Freepost label provided, and the Officer selects a new range of materials to send out. You are able to change selections or request specific authors, titles or subjects at any time by contacting the Country Borrower Officer on 8950 0512.

How Do I Join?

You can join in person during a visit to the Library (remember to have some proof of identity and residential address with you), or you can ring 8950 0512 and ask for the Country Borrowers Officer, who will send the application form and preference sheets to you by mail. Your membership will be processed when you return the completed and signed application form and preference sheets. You can also download and print the relevant preference sheets below and request the membership application form separately.
