Alice Springs schools

Alice Springs has two private and three government high schools. It also has numerous primary schools and preschools.

Children start school in the Northern Territory in the year they turn four and a half. Secondary schools take children from around the age of 12. There are no exams and no streaming of students between primary and secondary school. Government, or public, schools are secular and charge no fees for children who are Australian citizens. Many private schools have religious origins, but religious education is often not emphasised in the syllabus'.
