The Alice Springs Garden Cemetery is available for general burials.
The Memorial Cemetery is only available for burials in graves reserved prior
to 1995 and burials in the Muslim section. The Pioneer Cemetery is of historic interest only.

Alice Springs Memorial Cemetery
The Alice Springs Memorial Cemetery on Memorial Drive is the final resting place of many Alice Springs pioneers and famous personalities.
There are memorials to Albert Namatjira and Harold Lasseter amongst others as well as a military section and a Muslim section.
The cemetery opened on 26 January 1933 and closed for general burials on 1 August 1995.

Pioneer Cemetery
The Pioneer Cemetery (below) on George Crescent was the first cemetery in Alice Springs. It was proclaimed in 1890 and used until the 1930’s. There are only seven named graves, with other graves only indicated by mounds and fencing. Amongst the graves with headstones are Alice Springs’ first Postmaster, Paul Muller, and explorer Frank George. Fred Spicer who died in November 1889 as a result of a horse riding accident was the first person buried there.

Alice Springs Garden Cemetery

The Alice Springs Garden Cemetery on the South Stuart Highway is approximately nine kilometres south of the town centre.
This cemetery was opened in 1978, and is the only cemetery now available for general burials.
It has sections for in-ground burials and a Niche Wall for the placement of ashes.

Headstones and plaques
The maximum size for a headstone is one metre high, 900 mm long, and 340mm wide. The maximum size for a plaque is 390mm x 240mm, although a standard plaque of 240mm x 100mm is included in the burial fee.
