Moving to Alice Springs

Hi there, I am moving to Alice springs in 2008, with my family from the states. I would love more info on what to expect, the schools and the community in general. Thanks

Re: Moving to Alice Springs

Hi Jenell, Welcome to Alice Springs in advance! I'm not sure, but I think you can expect a climate not unlike that of Arizona or New Mexico. Lots of further information about Alice Springs is available on this website, including schools and the community etc, but just ask if there is anything specific you'd like to know. You're aware we drive on the left hand side of the road here?

Thanks Mike

Yes I am aware of the opposite driving conditions, lol. Im sure it will take me a while to learn that, and get the nerve to get my licence. I love this website, and have found lots of great info. Ive requested enrollment packets from several schools, including OLSH, and Im getting really exited.

Im most worried about the prospect of moving my pets, and would love to hear from others who have sucsessfully done it. Ive downloaded the forms and regulations from the dept of Ag, and just need more info on the quarantine ect...Do most people send thier pets ahead of them, so that they are ready to be picked up in Sidney, when they arrive....and if only our sponsor would get back to us about what type of housing to expect...

Im very exited to be a part of your community, and learn all about the NT

Re: Thanks Mike

I'm afraid I have no experience with pets travelling internationally or Australia's quarantine laws, you almost certainly know more than me. No doubt some fellow expats from the US could help.

We do have a good selection of schools, I know that Alice Springs is a great town for kids to grow up and study in.

Regarding housing, we have the full range here. You could possibly gain some idea of what is on offer by visiting the websites of our local real estate agents, if you haven't done so already. Probably the only feature in common with houses in Alice Springs is that they are all air-conditioned. Air-conditioners get a very good work-out this time of year.

Moving to Alice Springs

Sounds like fun...I grew up in New Mexico and loved the weather up there. I am also planning to move to Alice Springs in the near future.
