The 2009 Night Markets and Christmas Carnival are shaping up to be huge events with an abundance of local talent. Below is just a small taste of what’s in store.
The first night market for 2009 saw the community participating in the new music trivia game ‘SPITS & SPATS’ brought to you by Slowcoach Entertainment. A hilarious version of the TV show ‘SPICKS & SPECKS’, a quiz show with a difference, encouraging fun, frivolity and audience participation.
In between all the music quiz madness, Alice’s own community choir Asante Sana under the directorship of Morris Stuart, with lead vocalist Barb Stuart delivered as always an exhilarating, invigorating and stimulating performance.
Although rain was almost upon us, the weather stayed clear and warm for this August night. The mall bustled with the community and tourists alike looking to engage with friends, family and purchase from the numerous market stalls.
Put your hands together for local schools talent. InCite Youth Arts presents a short sharp showcase of fresh and funky moves 'It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking through the mall...The InCite/ASHS Dancers are proud to present what will surely be a thrilling short performance.
The St. Philip’s College Junior Dance Company is a dynamic and every growing troupe of Year 7 – 9 students. They have had great success at the Centralian Eisteddfod, the SA/NT Wakakirri Story Dance and World Cup Cheer and Dance Competitions. Routines are colorful and energetic and lots of FUN!!!
Five young emerging music artists from Tashka Urban's music studio, aged 12 to 16, have experimented with their own artistic imprint on the entertainment sphere. From singer-songwriters with incredible voices and stunning lyrics, to improvised artists with unbelievable stage flair - you'll want to see these upcoming youth's of Alice Springs!
New to Alice, singer/songwriter Julianne from Mawu will be entertaining the crowd with her powerful voice which ranges in tone and timber allowing great contrast and emotion to be expressed in her singing. Joining her will be Dom Costello, a Kamillaroi woman who plays mandolin and banjo with a folk, old time style.
Sami Cha, who's style is an intricate mix of raunch blues and folksy percussive groove
Leon Spurling and Friends on guitar on vocals will treat you to original sounds with influences from all your favourites with a twist!
Rhubee Neale (Sue Gibson Napanangka), a Central Australian Desert Rose from Alice Springs is of Anmatyerre, Arrernte and Irish heritage will be performing her lyrics and music which captures her Irish and Aboriginal identities with topics close to her heart relating to her people, life and homeland. Rhubee will be playing with Edan Baxter, an Alice Springs based singer songwriter originally from Gunailand who performs an eclectix mix of original songs drawing inspiration from growing up in the bush. Also playing will be Rachel Shields, a travelling story teller, singer and songwriter who's songs sing through the truth that she holds dear.
Tara Stewart is a singer - musician born and bred in Alice Springs. At 19, she is already a multi instrumentalist concentrating on voice, guitar, flute and saxophone. Her voice has been described as "a great velvet voice with a flawless sense of pitch." Tara is heading to Europe in 2010, so come along and listen, it may be one of your last chances to listen to our local 'velvet voice' girl.

Please note that the collection point for lost children is at the Stage under the Sails. If you lose your child at any time during the event, please advise a memeber of the night market crew and we will place an announcement through the PA system located at the stage area.
