Newspapers, radio and television stations available in Alice Springs.

Television

There are four free to air television stations in Alice Springs.

• ABC Television – Has an NT specific news service which operates out of Darwin. There is an Alice Springs based journalist and camera person. Two digital channels (ABC-TV and ABC-2) available.
• SBS – National news and national television programming. Digital service available.
• Imparja – Mostly Channel Nine programming. No digital service.
• Southern Cross Television – Runs Channel Seven news and mostly Channel Seven Queensland programming. No NT presentation so programs are broadcast half an hour earlier than advertised on their promotions. No digital service.

Radio

ABC Radio

• The local ABC station is (783 AM) Alice Springs which broadcasts locally on 0600 to 1100 and 1400 to 1800 weekdays (with AM at 0830 to 0900). Other programs are broadcast from Darwin.
• Radio National (99.7 FM), Classic FM (97.9 FM) and JJJ (94.9 FM) are all broadcast locally on the NT/Qld schedule.

Other Radio

• CAAMA, the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association, radio (100.5 FM)
• 8CCC (102.1 FM) is a community radio station
• 8HA (900 AM) is a commercial music and talk station
• SunFM (96.9 FM) is a commercial music and talk station

Newspapers

There are two local papers:

• The Alice Springs News comes out on Thursdays and nominally costs a dollar – although it is delivered free to most residential addresses. The Alice Springs News website contains all their stories since 1998 and has an eye-catching layout.
• The Centralian Advocate is published by News Limited and appears Tuesdays and Fridays. The Advocate is not free, but has the majority of real estate and positions vacant adverts.

Most major capital city newspapers are available by air (they arrive at about 2pm on the day of publication), but they cost two to three times their home city cover price.
Newspapers have a lower priority than passengers, so frequently they are 'bumped' by the airline and don't arrive at all. If this happens on the weekend the newsagents often close early.

Internet

There are a number of internet cafes in town, some of which offer 'blue cable' (plug your own laptop in) or wireless access. The Alice Springs Town Library also has public access internet PCs and wireless.
